  20. What's "soon" though?  AT claims early 97, and I personally guess more
  21. like late 97 or early 98.  Maybe the PPC cards will arrive sooner, but
  22. even there, how long do you think it will be before a significant number
  23. of commercial applications are native?

  25. It sounds like the 68K emulation is no more than 040/25 speed, so you're
  26. better off with an 060 until native apps appear.  And that's gonna be
  27. quite a while yet.

  29. Anyway, I guess I still believe the 68060 is useful.  I don't expect to
  30. see native commerical PPC apps for quite some time.  Getting a 2-5 X
  31. performance boost in the meantime is no small thing.  It isn't in the
  32. Pentium or P6 class, but its the closest the Amiga can come to competing
  33. with PC performance at the moment - maybe gets us to a third of a fast
  34. Pentium instead of 1/10th for the 040.

  38. PS - I sure hope that those Amiga users still using ECS or AGA and
  39. 68020s will actually buy PPC Amigas.  If people insist on hanging onto
  40. hopelessly out of date hardware for years and years, the Amiga market
  41. *will* die completely.
